Divide the CAT Syllabus

If you questioning “how to prepare for CAT exam in 3 months,” consider breaking down the syllabus into separate sections — VARC, DI & LR, and QA. Focus on one section at a time, allocating specific time for each. Finish one section before proceeding to the next.

Start With the Challenging Section

Since the difficulty of each section of CAT varies, start with the one that takes the most time to prepare and that you find most tricky. Then, progressively go to the sections that seem simpler to you.

Manage Time

Effective time management is critical for CAT performance because the exam has a stringent 120-minute time limit, with every section given 40 minutes.

In addition, set aside time to pick up new ideas, revise, practice, take mock examinations, and assess how you're doing. Create a timeline, adhere to it strictly, and make revisions as needed.

Previous Years’ Questions

It is crucial that you review past years' question papers to have a thorough grasp of the CAT pattern and prepare accordingly. However, relying on them blindly is not advisable because the CAT pattern varies each year. Using those as a guideline might be beneficial.

Mock Test

Once you have completed at least 70% of the CAT syllabus, be sure you take mock tests every week. Mock tests should be conducted under timed settings, as this will help in enhancing time management skills. Aim to take one or two mock tests every week. Following each exam, assess your performance to identify your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT), and proceed accordingly.

Focus more diligently on improving your weakest areas while also practicing your areas of strength and possibilities.

Practice

Practice! Practice! Practice!

Nothing can beat the importance of regular practice. Go over every part of the CAT syllabus over and again, and be consistent when practicing. Self-discipline is essential when preparing for the CAT at home. Never miss study time or neglect practice and revision.

Conclusion

Preparing CAT can seem daunting and overwhelming at times. However, with the right guidance and strategy, it is possible to master the CAT preparation at home. Don't be deterred by the difficulty level. Focus properly, begin early, and practice by concentrating on all aspects. Also, don't forget to take regular mock tests to track your progress. With the appropriate approach, you can effectively prepare for the CAT. Best of luck!
